I am honored that 1972 Family Portrait was selected for the Art of State 2019.

52nd PA, Art of the State, 2019

I visited the art exhibit with the Silvermine Nine art group. The curator included this family portrait with school groups in a discussion about present day cell phone “selfies” and how this was a snapshot of a monent in time when the Bisker family was at a simple hometown wedding of family friends. A vintage 1972 selfie of sorts.

In the summer of 2018, Mom had a medical event which sent her to York hospital for three days of tests, then two weeks in Apple Hill of intense in-patient rehabilitation, followed by five additional weeks of rehab at Country Meadows facility.

Thankfully Mom gained enough health to return to her condo. I worked through the event by painting this family portrait. She was delighted when the piece was juried into the Pennsylvania State of the Art Show. Still, a simple UTI can become sepsis and do a lot of cognitive damage. Drink lots of water!

It is in good company with another Lancaster artist.

Family Portrait 1972 — This 30” x 40” monochromatic posterized Bisker family photo from a snapshot taken at a small wedding of friends.

There were quite a few artists that I knew that got accepted into the show that year. Gene Shaw, from art group; Amy Edwards, Hempfield HS art teacher, Rick Huck, retired Ephrata School District art teacher.

Booklet for the Ike Hay Sculpture Invitational; oh my heart.

Ike, Bull; Teri, Self of Sorts; Mistral, Cats at 6yr; Mariah, Plaque at 4yr

All three of us in the family was influenced to create. Ike encouraged us in bronze work and everything else that we chose to do too. The girls found the studio and art building to be their place to explore and experiment with microcrystalline wax that Ike placed on spruing systems to cast.

Family wall which included two of Ike’s site-specific sculptures.

The red macquette was Ike’s favorite site-specific sculpture: Hot Spill, in York, PA. The blue is my favorite, Egyptian Gate, in Harrisburg, PA. This piece is in need of some restoration, and a former student, Jerry Vath, from the 70’s is planning to organize that effort. Stay tuned.

Gallery view of the Bronze invitational, which included 47 pieces.

Much thanks to Line Bruntse, who eagerly took on this invitational project. Ike found her to be the perfect one – so hard working, talented, and eager — to get the bronze studio up and running again. Line was so instrumental in helping me work on the bronze part of my body of work of 12 heads in bronze, clay, and felt. She welcomed Ike into the studio to help in that effort. Gracious and generous with information and ideas, Line and Ike, helped me every step of the bronze process.

Serenity Shelf was accepted in the Art of State, PA 2015.

We artists always love to get these in these shows, and a little press.

Very pleased to receive this award for my Pencil Boy Group.

43rd Annual Open Juried Exhibit, Third Place Award, York, PA Art Association, 2016

This was the first time I entered this community show, even though I grew up in York County. When I went to the opening one of the persons who helped put the show together was very complimentary of the 3-piece work, Pencil Boy, because, he said, that my photography was horrible and did not illustrate this sculpture group it in its true light. So, I knew that when I decided to finally update this website, I needed a great photographer. I found her here in CT, Dianna Nelson.

More on this wonderful group of friends and makers in that gallery.

One of my early exhibits with the face groupings.

Nice to see the bronze Family of Four used for this postcard mailing.
