Old website for terihay.com — created in 2010 to document the Bronze–Clay–Felt series of work. 12 years later, I created a new website to document old work, and add new artwork as well as writing.

2010 Old Website

I am in the process this year of collecting all my art, current and old, having all of the work re-photographed professionally, and undergirding them with my writing to create this new website. It has taken months to come to fruition and will be a digital retrospective and tool for which I can finally add new work to. It will be a reason to keep working, making, writing. It is slow, methodical, and deliberate work. It may be small, but I have a voice. I hope to bring new focus, both literal and figurative, to these pieces that continue to resonate with me.

The full body of work in the Bronze–Clay–Felt series includes 36 individual pieces. It started with 12 bronze pieces that I created during my yearlong sabbatical in the 2007-08 school year. A few years later, I had created the companion pieces in clay and felt. I have a fascination with materials and explored those mediums. So much work.

Back in 2010 I wanted to highlight the art and the processes of making all the different mediums on a website. That work started in 2010 with the help of John Huber, who created it with code. I did not have the inclination to grasp writing code to update it, and it remained static for over a decade. I decided that the work since then, and future work would need a new site. Meghan Lambert listened to all my visions for the site and patiently developed this website with many changes along the way. Now I will be able to add to, edit, or delete what I want at any time. I will practice all of this with corrections and additions to this site.

The bronze figures are one of a kind, no molds were made. The work and effort involved in making all this art is immense, and as a teacher I wanted to share the process of each medium. Many galleries on this new website includes how I made the work. I never believed in keeping family recipes secret, and that continues with my art.

The red earthenware clay heads are bisque fired to cone 06 to 04 range. Majolica glazes are fired to cone 012 to maintain a matte surface. Four interior rattles gently sound to represent being chosen known, loved and celebrated.

Old website process was presented with a slideshow.

The felt construction and subsequent steps are in the Needle Felt Process gallery.

The group is presented together, Bronze–Clay–Felt series.

The groups are now on this new site in the 4th gallery, Face Groups, Bronze from Groupings, Clay from Groupings, Felt from Groupings. These faces, and others can be seen through out this website as I have repeated and explored the many varied forms I wanted to experiment with and the images kept drawing me into using them in many presentations.

Image of the short bio on the old website, much rings true on this new site.

This old website showcased my sabbatical work of 2007-08. The year away from teaching put me on a 5-year path to plan life after teaching. Alas, we can plan, but the flip side of living can shatter best-laid plans. As my mother said, “Life is for the living.” We have not choice but to go on. We do have a choice in how we embrace the good, bad, and ugly. The joy and the sadness .
